Dodgers News: Kershaw to undergo two offseason surgeries

via MLB.com/Dodgers

While the Los Angeles Dodgers, their fans, and the city celebrated the team’s eighth World Series championship with a parade around the city and Dodger Stadium, we got two massive updates regarding veteran left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw.

First, the lefty who already confirmed with the Fox Sports crew that he’d be back for the 2025 season to pitch again shared that same statement at today’s parade but confirmed not only would he be back but would be quote “Dodger for life” while hoisting the World Series trophy.

Kershaw, 36, re-signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers last offseason to a one-year $7.5 million deal with a $10 million player option for the 2025 season.

While Kershaw confirmed he would be back in Dodger Blue for his eighteenth season, it did not confirm whether he would opt-in or renegotiate a new deal, but the lefty will be back at Chavez Ravine for at least one more season of his Hall of Fame-worthy career.

In terms of what the offseason will look like for Kershaw, he confirmed today that he will get not just one but two surgeries this offseason.

One, to address his toe — there’s more damage than the bone spurs, including a ruptured plantar plate. The second is to repair the meniscus in his left knee. His return date is to-be-determined.

Kershaw will be going under the knife for the second time in his career after having offseason shoulder surgery last winter shortly after the end of the season.

Kershaw returned to the mound at Dodger Stadium and made his 2024 regular-season debut on July 25th against their National League West rival, the San Fransisco Giants.

The lefty would make seven total starts, but with a few clunkers thrown in, he had the highest ERA of his career at 4.50 and was placed on the 15-day injured list with that left big toe injury.

Kershaw would attempt to return for the Dodgers postseason run but was shut down shortly before the National League Division Series began.

Clayton Kershaw is also only thirty-two strikeouts away from three thousand in his career, and if he can reach that goal, he’d be only the twentieth pitcher to reach the milestone in Major League Baseball history.
