Dodgers Injury Update: Bobby Miller Facing Shoulder Setback as 2026 Season Nears
Why the Bobby Miller Setback Matters for Dodgers Depth

GLENDALE, AZ—Despite having an embarrassment of riches in the pitching department, the Los Angeles Dodgers have already seen the injury bug hit hard with multiple arms likely to miss Opening Day later this month.
One of those arms is former 2023 standout right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller, who, according to Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, has yet to throw off a mound this spring due to right arm/shoulder troubles.
Despite the setback, the Dodgers still hope Miller can begin ramping up in the coming weeks. He wasn’t expected to make the 26-man roster out of camp, but the injury does impact the club’s minor-league depth.
This isn’t Miller’s first bout with shoulder trouble — he missed most of the 2024 regular season with right shoulder inflammation after just two starts.
Upon his return, Miller would scuffle to an 8.52 ERA across 13 starts, with multiple metrics taking a dip, including his strikeout rate declining and his walk rate doubling to 11.6.
The 26-year-old former first-round pick made only two appearances for Los Angeles last season, as Miller spent the majority of the year in Triple-A in the Oklahoma City Comets rotation until being moved to the bullpen by the end of the season.
It’s a fall from grace for Miller, who once looked like a star in the making after his stellar rookie season, where the right-hander posted a 3.76 ERA in 22 starts, along with an above-average strikeout rate of 23.6, along with underlying numbers supporting his success with a 3.44 xERA and 3.51 FIP.
Miller Puts Positive Spin on Lengthy Struggles
It’s well documented how bad Miller has been since the conclusion of the 2023 season, where the right-hander went from potential young ace to borderline unplayable just two years later.
However, Miller has used those experiences to help prepare him for the upcoming season, where he’s prepared to help the team in whatever role they place him in.
“Big thing for me is just not trying to panic. I caught myself doing that a little bit last year and just worrying so much about getting back to the big leagues,” Miller recently admitted.
“I learned a lot about myself last year. Whether it was starting and going to the bullpen, I hadn’t really had to deal with that throughout my career. That’s something I’m willing to do this year. Whether it’s a starter, reliever, hybrid guy, I can do it all.
“Whatever the team needs, I want to be there for them, and I want to make an impact this year with this team.”
