We will certainly cover Matt Kemp’s off-season recovery and his hopeful return to full-time playing status in more depth as Spring Training approaches, but there were some optimistic, yet cautious, tidbits to pass along from today’s Dodgers Fan Fest.
I don’t think one needs to be a reader of tea leaves to come away with the impression that Kemp is 1) angry about being doubted, written off, and casually talked about in trade rumors, 2) eager to recapture his 2011 form, 3) taking a long-term approach to his off-season recovery and rehabilitation, and 4) planning on doing whatever it takes (perhaps that includes trying to avoid crashing into walls and stepping awkwardly on home plate) to stay healthy all season long. If he can start at least 80% of the season and produce numbers even close to what he accomplished in 2011, then the Dodgers would certainly be ecstatic…and they might just have a shot at getting back to the NLCS, and hopefully to the World Series.
