Dodgers Analysis: Miguel Rojas is having one the best seasons of his career

LOS ANGELES, CA — Since the move of Mookie Betts back to rightfield and Miguel Rojas being the everyday short stop, Rojas’s game is at a different level.

“I’m just blessed for the opportunity to be playing shortstop for this organization. I was waiting for this opportunity. Like I told you guys in Spring Training, I didn’t say it just because I have to say it, but I prepare to play 162 games every year. I’m going to do that until my career is over. I still think that I’m an everyday shortstop.” — Miguel Rojas.

The Dodgers organization knew Rojas’s abilities as short stop, but what has impressed and surprised just about everyone is the 35-year-old’s offensive surge. In the month of August, Rojas line is 22 H / 4 2B / 1 HR / 10 RBI / .349 AVG / .364 OBP / .460 SLG and a sacrifice bunt in a key game against Arizona.

When Dodger fans ask who is the leader of the team, Miguel Rojas cannot be left out of the discussion. Fans have seen Rojas go to the mound and consult a pitcher when they are starting to struggle or show signs of wearing down. That is one intangible a field captain provides to the team he is anchoring.

“I can’t say enough about Miggy Ro; I’m pushing him a little bit as far as playing time, but he’s coming up big. Defensively and big spots offensively, he’s coming up with big RBIs and big hits. Like I said, that edge he puts forward is contagious.” — Dave Roberts

There is no question Miguel Rojas has been a key piece of the puzzle the Dodgers organization has put together. Rojas has surprised many with not only his youthful defensive ability, but his offensive surge has become reliable in key parts of the game where Rojas has delivered.

The Dodgers have twenty more games to play in the regular season and will not only need Rojas’s on the field leadership. They will need his bat to continue to produce results in key games if the Dodgers want to make a serious run at the World Series.
