The Los Angeles Dodgers today acquired outfielder/first baseman Kyle Jensen from the Miami Marlins in exchange for a player to be named or cash considerations. Dodger President of Baseball Operations Andrew Friedman made the announcement.
Jensen, 26, spent the entire 2014 campaign with the Marlins’ Triple-A affiliate in New Orleans, hitting .260 with 27 homers, 92 RBI and 29 doubles in 133 games for the Zephyrs. His 27 homers tied for fourth in the Pacific Coast League while his 92 RBI ranked second in the PCL. The 6’3, 250-pound right-handed hitter has belted 128 career minor league homers in less than six full seasons in the Miami organization, including a career-best 28 in 2013 while splitting time between the Double-A and Triple-A levels.
In 577 minor league games, Jensen has seen time in right field (296) and left field (246), at first base (21) and as the designated hitter (14).
The Walnut Creek, CA, native was originally drafted by the Marlins in the 12th round of the 2009 amateur draft after attending St. Mary’s Preparatory School in Michigan. The addition of Jensen means the Dodgers’ 40-man roster stands at 37.
