Dodgers Analysis: Freddie is here! So how do we line up?

A lot of possibilities with Freeman in the lineup and a new DH position. (Photo: ESPN)

As soon as the lockout lifted, all eyes pointed at Freddie Freeman. Rumors circulated all over the place, but now that the dust settled, it’s finally official. He’s a Dodger! Dave Roberts now has his hands full of all-stars, former MVPs, and World Series Champions. So how will he form the best lineup?

As currently constructed, the Dodgers arguably have two of the five best first basemen in the game. This is what MLB Network thinks about that statement.

This is where the universal DH comes in. Muncy and Freeman aren’t going to have to defend everyday. Muncy can also slide over to second or third as well to give Taylor or JT some nights off defensively if needed. The DH makes the possibilities endless.

The outfield should be pretty straight forward most of the season. Mookie Betts in right, Cody Bellinger in center, AJ Pollock in left. I’m sure Chris Taylor will get time out there, as well as Gavin Lux who jumped in the outfield towards the end of last season.

The batting order is where things get interesting. This will obviously change due to the handedness of the pitcher, but here’s how I’d line up opening day.

  1. SS Trea Turner
  2. RF Mookie Betts
  3. DH Max Muncy
  4. 1B Freddie Freeman
  5. 3B Justin Turner
  6. C Will Smith
  7. CF Cody Bellinger
  8. 2B Chris Taylor
  9. LF AJ Pollock

AJ Pollock is the nine hitter. The guy is coming off a .297 average, 21 home runs, and 69 RBIs. He’s my nine hitter. No matter how you line things up, this offense is going to be feared by every team and every pitcher out there.
