Dodgers and Royals Honor Negro League with Tribute Game at Kauffman Stadium

The Los Angeles Dodgers and Kansas City Royals paid tribute to the Negro Leagues’ legacy on Sunday afternoon at Kauffman Stadium by playing a special game celebrating the league’s significant impact on baseball and American history.

The Royals wore 1945 Kansas City Monarchs caps, honoring one of the most iconic teams in Negro Leagues history and the club where Jackie Robinson played before signing with the Brooklyn Dodgers.

The Dodgers, whose integration of Major League Baseball began with Robinson’s debut in 1947, acknowledged their historic role in breaking the game’s color barrier. After the game, the commemorative caps worn by both teams will be auctioned, with proceeds going to the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum in Kansas City.

The tribute linked past and present to celebrate progress, resilience, and the legacy of those who helped shape the game. It reflected both organizations’ dedication to preserving baseball’s history and honoring those who made enduring change possible..
