Dodgers Opinion: Ben Casparius play’s a big role in the Dodgers 2024 post season success.

LOS ANGELES, CA - OCTOBER 13: Will Smith #16 and Ben Casparius #78 of the Los Angeles Dodgers celebrate after winning Game 1 of the NLCS presented by loanDepot between the New York Mets and the Los Angeles Dodgers at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, October 13, 2024 in Los Angeles, California. The saying goes, “you can never have enough pitchers” and the Los Angeles Dodgers 2024 season is a testament to that. When Tyler Glasnow and Gavin Stone were lost for the season with arm injuries, Clayton Kershaw and Yoshinobu Yamamoto missing a big part of the season, and Walker Buehler trying to find his groove again.

The Los Angeles Dodgers turned to their farm system and one of the pitchers called up was OKC’s Ben Casparius. In August, Casparius played the call up/sent back down game going from Oklahoma to LA until September when he stayed up with the Dodgers organization.

In June of this year, Casparius was promoted to OKC from Tulsa after spending some time on IL and assigned to Arizona on the development squad. Casparius was reliable when he took the mound for Oklahoma, his line in Triple-A 4W / 3L / 3.36ERA / 16G / 25ER / 4HR / 35BB / 72SO / .193AVG / 1.22WHIP.

OKC X

Casparius’s confidence grew when his 4-pitch mix played in the Major Leagues. His 96 mph four-seam fastball was his go to pitch and was thrown 48.7%, had a 33.3Whiff %, 2400 spin, and had an 18.5 Put away %. Slider was thrown 35.9%, 37.0 Whiff%, 3031 spin, and 26.1 Put away%. Curveball was thrown 11.5%, 33.3 Whiff%, 3011 spin, and 20.0 Put away%.

Baseball Savant

In the post season, Casparius was credited with one win against the NY Mets and his line in the NLCS and World Series was impressive. 4G / 6.1IP / 3H / 1ER / 5BB / 5SO / 1.42ERA / .136AVG / 1.26WHIP.

MILB

Ben Casparius was just one of the seven pitchers who were brought up from the minors to help the Dodgers make the post season and win the 2024 World Series. It is my opinion that Casparius has made a big case for him to be a part of the Dodgers highly respected bullpen in 2025. Credit needs to be given to the Dodgers minor league coaching staff who got these kids ready to pitch at the highest level. Congratulations to all the minor league pitchers who got called up throughout the regular season and earned a World Series ring.
