Dodgers bolster bullpen with Sergio Romo Signing

The Los Angeles Dodgers have signed 2012 World Series hero. Sergio Romo to a one year deal, with incentives. Romo spent his career with the Dodgers heated rival, the San Francisco Giants. This move should pay dividends this season, by providing veteran relief  and taking some of the load off Dodgers closer, Kenley Jansen.

Much Needed Relief

It’s no secret all of last season fans clamored for the Dodgers to make a move to bolster the bullpen. To their disappointment however, no such trades were made during the year. The acquisitions from last year weren’t what fans wanted.

By signing Romo the Dodgers add an invaluable asset with post season experience and perhaps, a reliable set up man to Jansen.  According to ProBaseball-Reference.com his ERA of 2.64 last year while only pitching 30 innings can mean he’ll be rested or perhaps a sign of declining skill, Dodger fans certainly hope it’s not the latter.

As we head into Spring Training all eyes will be on how the coaching staff handles Romo’s transition. Alongside Pedro Baez and Adam Liberatore, he figures to be veteran presence that the Dodgers have sorely needed.

Hopefully the Imperial Valley native can deliver some magic as he did for the Gaints not that long ago.
