As the new year approaches, the Dodgers continue to change the structure of their bullpen. The Dodgers have reportedly agreed to terms with reliever Sergio Santos. The deal was a minor league deal. Santos was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 2002 amateur draft. He was the 27th pick of the draft in the 1st round. He was drafted out of Mater Dei high school in Santa Ana, CA. Santos was originally drafted as a shortstop but later was converted to a relief pitcher by the Chicago White Sox.
Santos has played for the Chicago White Sox and the Toronto Blue Jays. Santos served as the closer for the Toronto Blue Jays but his time was as closer was cut short due to subsequent injuries sustained through the 2012-2013 season. He was designated for assignment by the Blue Jays in 2014.
Santos career numbers as a pitcher are 7-12 with a 3.89 ERA in 180 appearances. Santos agreed to terms on December 30, 2014.
He is expected to provide pitching depth and possibly compete for a spot as one of the relievers in the bullpen for the 2015 season.
