Last night the ACL Dodgers played game two of the three game series for the Arizona Catus League Championship. The Dodgers team came into the series with the best record of the ACL Central and would be matched up with ACL East ACL D-Backs.
Game one was played on Sunday July 28th and the Dodgers put 20-year-old RHP Hyun-Seok Jang on the mound. Jang, who was a Korean High School prodigy signed a $900,000 international signing bonus last year with the Dodgers to play in Major Leagues.
Jang pitched three scoreless innings and dominated batters with his mid-ninety’s fastball and devasting slider. Jang finished the night 3.0IP / 0H / 0ER / 1BB / 8K / 0.00ERA / 51P / 34S / 13 whiffs.
ACL Dodgers potent offense scored eight runs lead by second baseman Nicolas Perez and first baseman Easton Shelton. In the fourth inning Shelton blasts one over the left field fence putting the team up 3-0. In the sixth inning Perez puts one over the left field fence adding to the lead 4-0 over the D-Backs.
The ACL Dodgers took game one over the ACL D-backs 8-1 lead by the dominate pitching of Hyun-Seok Jang and the offense of Nicolas Perez and Easton Shelton. Perez end the night 4AB / 2H / 1RBI / 1BB / 1HR / .375AVG / 1.194OPS Shelton 3AB / 1H / 2RBI / 2BB / 1HR / .286AVG / 1.158OPS.
Game two was played Monday July 28th at Cambel Back Ranch. The ACL Dodgers got into an early hole being down 2-0 to the ACL D-Backs. The Dodgers pitching was not as crisp as the previous night, but the offense would take over the game. RF Mairoshendrick Martinus got things started with a solo blast over the leftfield fence putting the Dodgers on the board. Top ranked prospect SS Joendry Vargas was next to bat and made it back-to-back homeruns putting one over the leftfield fence and tying the game up 2-2.
The ACL D-Backs made a game of it in the nineth innings scoring 2 runs and putting the D-Backs down by one. After giving up two runs, RHP Jholbran Herder locked in and struck out the last batter ending the game, Dodgers 7 D-Backs 6 giving the ACL Dodgers the championship.
Martinus, Vargas, and DH Roger Lasso lead the team in offense. Martinus 4AB / 2H / 1 RBI / 1HR / .364AVG / 1.144OPS, Vargas 5AB / 2H / 1RBI / 1HR / .333AVG / .933OPS, Lasso 4AB / 2 H / 4RBI / .273AVG / .749OPS.
