Dodgers Farm: Clayton Kershaw makes his final rehab start with OKC Comets. Michael Kopech gets back on track with his rehab.

On a sunny Mother’s Day, Clayton Kershaw took the mound for the Comets in his final rehab start before returning to the Dodgers. Kershaw was looking to get three to four innings of work in before handing the ball over to Michael Kopech.
Kershaw got off to a slow start in the first inning. He walked the first batter and hit the second on wide curveball. Kersh got bailed out with a groundout double that ended the inning. Clayton’s second was a clean one. He sat down the first three batters he faced with his first strikeout and fly outs.
In the top of the third. Kershaw showed off his glove by making a spectacular snag and throw to Dalton Rushing at first base. Through three scoreless innings he had 41P / 28S with two strikeouts.
Kershaw got into a bit of trouble in the top of the fourth. Isotopes got the first two batters on with weak ground balls into the gaps. OKC defense got a double play with one runner on third. Isotopes next batter came up a smoked one over the left field wall for a two-run homer.
Clayton’s day was done. He pitched a solid game with his fastball and slider being the best pitches he threw. His patented curveball was a bit off but effective in a few cases. His line for the day 57P / 35S / 4IP / 2H / 2ER / 2BB / 2K / 1HR / 3.75ERA.
In the fifth inning Michael Kopech was given the ball and replaced Kershaw for his second rehab start. After giving up five walks in his first rehab with OKC, Kopech pitched a scoreless fifth with two strikeouts and gave up one hit. His fastball was hitting their mark, and his command was much better than his first outing. Kopech only pitched one inning and his line for the day 14P / 10S / 1IP / 0ER / 0BB / 2K.
Per Dave Roberts, this was Clayton Kershaw’s last rehab and will join the team at home for their series against the Athletics. Michael Kopech should have a few more rehab starts before joining back with the Dodgers.
