Dodgers News: Yoshinobu Yamamoto makes his first rehab start with Oklahoma City.

OKC X

Los Angeles Dodgers RHP Yoshinobu Yamamoto is set to pitch two innings against The Express in Round Rock Texas. If all goes well, he will likely make at least one more rehab start before rejoining the Dodgers. In July Yamamoto went on the IL, his injury was initially diagnosed as a rotator cuff strain but was later revised to right triceps soreness.

OKC batters faced Round Rock’s number two prospect Kumar Rocker. Rocker was called up from Double-A ball where he pitched nineteen and two third innings with a one ERA.

Yamamoto’s first inning looked really good. His command and pitch location were on point. Yamamoto’s fastball was clocked at 95mph and his split finger at 91mph. He did hang up a breaking ball that was hit for a home run.

Yoshi’s second inning was a bit more consistent. He threw his breaking ball a bit more and it looked real nasty. Yamamoto faced three batters, struck out one and two ground outs. Yamamoto got to see the pitch challenge, when OKC catcher Diego Cartaya challenged a call by the UMP and the call was overturned for a third strike out to end the inning.

Yamamoto’s night was done after two innings. He ended his first rehab start after coming off the IL with 2IP / 1H / 1ER / 2K / 1HR. I have been following and writing about Yoshinobu Yamamoto for a couple of years now, his first rehab start looked really good and very encouraging for a successful return to the Dodgers. Yamamoto will make one more start and then be re-evaluated before coming back to the Dodgers.
