Dodgers Farm: Friday Night Baseball, Tulsa plays a doubleheader, Bobby Miller rehab start, and a surprise Kyle Hurt rehab appearance in OKC.

Oklahoma went into last night’s game looking to split the 6-game series two games apiece against Round Rock. Bobby Miller took the mound for what reports say is last rehab assignment before being back with the Dodgers. Miller pitched four innings, gave up one run, two strike outs, and threw eighty-five pitches. Andre Lipcius got things started with OKC hitting his sixteenth homerun of the season putting OKC up 1-0 in the first. Hunter Feduccia and Chris Owings also knocked the ball out of the park giving OKC three homeruns for the night. The big surprise was seeing Kyle Hurt make a rehab appearance, Hurt hasn’t thrown a ball since April 16th. Hurt pitched 0.2 innings, had 2 strike outs, threw nineteen strikes and nine balls. Two of the balls where wild pitches that went over the catcher and into the net. OKC split the six-game series two games apiece with a 5-3 win over Round Rock.

Tulsa Drillers played a double header against Amarillo. Tulsa would blow out the Sod Poodles in the first game 17-4. Brandon Lewis and Bubba Alleyne went yard for the Drillers and Lewis tied Dalton Rushing record with five RBI’s in a game. With a lot of top prospects on Tulsa, SS Alex Freeland is flying under the radar hitting .314 and 1.003 OPS in 29 games. The Poodles pitching didn’t help, they gave up eleven walks which helped Tulsa break the game open in the fourth inning. Tulsa would lose the second game 1-6, with that lose Tulsa couldn’t get back to .500 winning record. Brandon Lewis was the big standout of the game with a bases clearing double scoring three and crushing the ball over the left field wall.

Great Lake Loons went into yesterday’s game looking to go up three games to one in there six game series against Cedar City. P Christian Romero took the mound for the Loons and pitched four shutout innings with two walks, six strike outs, and 1.86 ERA. Kyle Nevin started the scoring for the Loons with line drive single that scored Noah Miller. Yesterday’s game was a good team win for the Loons, not only did they have solid pitching. The bats played small ball giving Great Lakes a 6-0 win. The Loons lead the six-game series 3-1 with two more games to play.

Just like OKC, Rancho Cucamonga went into yesterdays to get a split in there six game series against the Rawhide. The Rawhide would take an early scoring three runs in the first inning Christian Zazueta. Zazueta was making his first start after being brought up the Dodgers ACL team June 7th. Jordan Thompson got the Quakes on the board in the first with a line drive that scored Kendall George. Tompson has been a reliable bat for the Quakes this year and would end the night with two singles, a double, and 3 RBI. The high light of the game was in the third inning. Logan Wagner came up to with bases loaded and smashed a grand slam to right field to give the Quakes a 6-3 lead. Samuel Munoz and Jordan Thompson would each hit singles that scored runners in the eighth inning to put the Quakes up 8-3. That would be the end of scoring by both teams and the Quakes would split for six game series with their second win. Rancho and Visalia go into the weekend to get two wins to take the series.

Another great Friday night of minor league baseball last night. OKC improve to 35-26 second in the PCL East, Tulsa dropped to 27-28 third in the Texas North, Loons improve to 30-24 second in the MID East, and Rancho improve to 24-28 second in the CAL South. Looking forward to watching each Dodgers Affiliate finish out there six game series this weekend.
