Sugar Land, TX— While the Los Angeles Dodgers completed their second consecutive series sweep to start the young 2025 Major League Baseball regular season, improving to 5-0, their best start to a season since 1981, it was a big day for another Dodgers minor leaguer.
Hyeseong Kim, 26, who was optioned to Triple-A OKC prior to the start of the Tokyo Series against the Chicago Cubs, has played his first two minor league games in the United States and had a terrific day in Game Two against the Sugar Land Space Cowboys.
In five plate appearances, Kim went 2-for-3 with a double, a triple, and two walks and collected four RBIs in the Oklahoma City Comets 8-2 victory.
While early, it is a significant first step for Kim to sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers over the winter for a 3-year, $12.5 million deal, with options that could extend it to a 5-year, $22 million deal. However, his place on the roster was not guaranteed.
After struggling this spring with a .207/.303/.310 slash line and a .613 OPS, forcing the Dodgers hand to demote the utilityman to the minor leagues, continuing to work on his swing.
If all goes well over the next few weeks and Kim continues to make progress in the minor leagues, we won’t have to wait long before we see him at Dodger Stadium making his Major League debut.
