With the trade deadline coming upon us, teams who are contenders or have World Series aspirations are making their wish list for available players. The question for the Dodgers, should the front office empty the farm this year?
The Dodgers farm system has had quality players for years, like Corey Seager, Cody Belinger, and Will Smith who have made it in the major leagues. Not all prospects will make it in the big leagues and a small percentage will.
The trick is finding those players who has what it takes to contribute or shine for the team they are playing for. There are thirty-two names on the Dodgers top prospect list and maybe five percent will make it in the major leagues.
If the Dodgers are going to make a run for the 2024 World Series, they will need a couple of pieces that will help them be successful in October. But what Dodger fans need to know and what they have experienced in years past, nothing is a guarantee. It all comes down to what team or teams are hot when September and October come around.
To empty your farm out is a mistake in this writer’s opinion. Trading older players who have value makes more sense to me, they get the opportunity to possibly play in the majors and make an impact with the team they are traded to. Just trading all of your top prospects for a few players that COULD make a difference is reckless to me.
I’m all for trading players like Andre Lipcius, Hunter Fedduccia, Jackson Ferris, Ricky Vanasco, and Trey Sweeney. These players are older and could help build a team to be competitive. I’m not in favor of trading young players like Josue De Paula, Kendall George, Justin Wrobleski, Hyun -Seok Jang, and Joendry Vargas. The Dodgers will need these talented kids in the near future.
The Dodgers have some possible superstars that could help build the organization when players like Freddie Freeman, Mookie Betts, and Walker Buehler either move on or retire. I will make the bold statement that some of these players will help the Dodgers be World Series contenders for years to come. So, trading all your talent for a couple of players that may workout (ask the Padres how the Juan Soto deal worked out) is not the right thing to do.
