Dodgers Farm: Patrick Copen was written into the Great Lake Loons history book last night

Since returning from a possible career ending injury in 2024, Great Lake Loons RHP Patrick Copen has taken his pitching abilities to the next level. Copen suffered a serious facial injury after being hit by a 100-mph line drive while pitching for the Great Lakes Loons.

In yesterday’s game against the Dayton Dragons, Patrick Copen pitched his best game since returning from the IL. Copen made Loons history by striking out 12 batters in his six innings pitched and allowed one hit and one errand run. His 12 strikeouts are the most by a Loons pitcher since Jose De Leon 14 strikeouts in August of 2014.

His performance is a statement of his character and termination. With no vision in his right eye Copen has a 2.81 ERA / 25.2 IP / 45 SO / 1.40 WHIP. His fast ball has increased to a high of 97 mph, a cutter at 91 mph, and a slider at 85 mph.

“It was a little bit of a mental battle, just trying to tell myself that I can get back to normal. And I have, which is very great to feel, especially from other people, pitching coaches and the like,” Copen said. “I’m in a very good spot. I’m very glad where I am right now, and where I plan to be.” From TrueBlueLA.
