Dodgers Farm: Recap of Oklahoma City’s 2025 opening day disappointing loss to Sugarland Space Cowboys

Constellation Field, Sugarland Texas – Oklahoma City Comets start their 2025 season opener on the road to Texas and blow a 3 run lead in the bottom of ninth.

The OKC Comets looked like a starting lineup for a major league team. Top prospects SS Alex Freeland and C Dalton Rushing are two players to watch this. The rest of the lineup was veteran Eddie Rosario, KBO gold glover Hyeseong Kim, C Hunter Feduccia, CF James Outman, 3B Kody Hoese, 1B Michael Chavis, and LF Ryan Ward.

Nick Frasso took the mound to start the 2025 minor league season. Frasso who missed all of the 2024 season after suffering a torn labrum that required surgery struck out the first batters and then gave up two hard hit singles up the middle. Frasso got out of the inning with a 93-mph fastball that struck out the number four batter.

Frasso night was done after two innings, he ended his night with 36P / 22S / 2IP / 2H / 0R / 1BB / 2K. His fast ball reached 94-mph and struggled a little with his command. Overall, he had a decent outing after missing all of the 2024 season.

In the top of fourth inning, top prospect Dalton Rushing put OKC on the board first with a solo shot over the center field wall. Rushing was showing signs in spring training of building his swing back and with that swing, it looks like it has followed him into the regular season.

RHP Justin Jarvis replaced Frasso in the top of the third. Jarvis sat down the first six batters with 3 strike outs and weak contact for infield outs. Jarvis ended the night with 75P / 44S / 4.2IP / 0H / 0R / 5BB / 5K.

In the top of the seventh Michael Chavis homers on a fly ball to left field putting the Comets up 2-0 over Sugarland. In the top of the eight, Hunter Feduccia crushed the ball over the center field wall for a solo home run. OKC loaded the bases looking to break the game open, James Outman struck out looking ending the inning.

In the bottom of the ninth. OKC looked to close out of the game with a three to zero shutout, but the reigning PL Champs had other plans. After closer Joe Jacques throwing error to first base and advancing the runner to second base. Space Cowboy’s Cesar Salazar hit a ground ball scoring a runner. Zack Short came up next and put one over the left field wall scoring two and tying the game up 3-3 with two outs. After another pitching change. The Space Cowboys walked it off scoring 4 runs in the bottom of ninth handing OKC their first loss of the season.
