Dodgers Farm: Ronan Kopp, a Towering Left-Hander on the Rise in the Dodgers System

In the deep and talent-rich Los Angeles Dodgers minor league system, one name that frequently catches the eye is Ronan Kopp. This imposing left-handed pitcher, drafted by the Dodgers in the 12th round of the 2021 MLB Draft, has been steadily climbing the organizational ladder, showcasing a captivating blend of power and potential.
The Baldwin Park native stands at a towering 6-foot-7 and weighing 250 pounds, Kopp’s physical presence on the mound is undeniable. This impressive frame allows him to generate considerable velocity, with his fastball consistently touching the mid-to-upper 90s, at times even reaching 97 mph. But it’s not just the raw heat that makes his fastball effective; it’s the unique angles he creates with his long limbs, which add a deceptive element to his pitches and make them challenging for hitters to square up.
Beyond the fastball, Kopp possesses a repertoire that includes a potentially plus breaking ball, notably a slider that scouts have lauded for its effectiveness. He’s also developing a curveball and a cutter, adding further depth to his arsenal as he progresses. While command has been an area of focus throughout his development, his strikeout numbers speak to his ability to overpower hitters. He consistently registers high strikeout rates, a testament to the quality of his stuff.
Kopp’s journey through the minors has seen him move from rookie ball to Single-A and High-A, and he’s currently pitching for the Double-A Tulsa Drillers. His 2022 season was particularly noteworthy, as he posted a strong 2.74 ERA across multiple levels, demonstrating his ability to adapt and succeed. In 2023, he continued to refine his craft, primarily pitching in High-A. As of the current 2025 season, he’s continuing to pitch for Tulsa, refining his pitches and aiming for further advancement.
Scouts often project Kopp as a high-leverage relief pitcher at the major league level, capable of pitching multiple innings. His size, left-handedness, and the pure stuff he brings to the mound are all attributes that excite evaluators. While the path to the big leagues is rarely linear, Kopp’s progress and the raw talent he possesses make him a compelling prospect to watch in the Dodgers’ pipeline. As he continues to hone his command and consistency, he could very well become a formidable weapon out of the Dodgers bullpen in the near future.
