Dodgers Farm: Serwinowski Shines in Dodgers Debut, Miller Thriving in ‘Pen Role

LOS ANGELES, CA—While the Los Angeles Dodgers made a “splash” at the trade deadline for outfielder Alex Call from the Washington Nationals and right-handed pitcher Brock Stewart from the Minnesota Twins, they also acquired quite a minor league haul as well.

One of those names was 21-year-old left-handed pitcher Adam Serwinowski, who made his Dodgers organization debut with the Great Lake Loons, the High-A Affiliate of the club.

Serwinowski was fantastic during the outing, tossing 6.1 shutout innings, allowing just one hit, four walks, and punching out nine hitters.

Overall, this season Serwinowski has posted a 1-7 record with a 4.46 ERA across 80.2 innings, but has posted a 3.96 ERA across his minor league career thus far.

Serwinowski, drafted by the Reds in 2022, impressed in his first four starts of this season for High-A Dayton, allowing just three earned runs over seventeen innings.

“The 6-foot-5 left-hander keeps opening eyes with what he can do,” reads Serwinowski’s MLB Pipeline profile. “He still has a two-pitch mix, but it’s a good 1-2 combination. Added strength allows him to keep adding velocity, and he averaged 93-94 mph, touching 97 mph, with a four-seamer that features good spin and ride up in the zone.”

Serwinowski currently ranks as the 14th best prospect in the Dodgers’ farm system, according to MLB Pipeline, and is the number three overall pitching prospect in the organization.

Last weekend, Dodgers insider Fabian Ardaya reported that the Dodgers, who were in need of bullpen help, would shift right-handed pitcher Bobby Miller to the ‘pen for the Triple-A OKC Comets.

Miller’s last game as a starter came on July 22nd, where the former Game Two starter of the 2023 National League Division Series allowed six runs on eight hits and four walks in 4.2 innings.

The outing pushed his season ERA to 5.58 across sixteen games (fourteen starts). Over the last two seasons at the Major League level, it’s been even worse for Miller, who’s averaged an 8.85 ERA and 7.00 FIP.

However, since being moved to the Comets’ bullpen, Miller, for the first time in a long time, has seen some consistency.

Overall, the right-hander has pitched five innings since the move, allowing just one run and collecting three punchouts, and yesterday’s scoreless outing pushed it to four consecutive hitless innings.

The Dodgers’ bullpen is set to receive multiple reinforcements over the final two months of the regular season, but if Miller continues to excel at his new role, it could be a blessing for Los Angeles, as he’d be a perfect weapon for an overworked pen in the final stretch of the season and possibly October.
