Dodgers History: Postseason History Between Dodgers & Brewers

The Dodgers and Brewers have played each other in October twice before the 2025 NLCS

MILWAUKEE, WI—On Monday night, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Milwaukee Brewers will kick off the best-of-seven National League Championship Series with the winner getting a crack at the Fall Classic.

After advancing to their second consecutive NLCS appearance after defeating the Cincinnati Reds in the Wild Card Series and then the Philadelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series, the Dodgers are just four wins away from their second straight World Series appearance.

Now, the Dodgers will take on the Brewers, their third time meeting in the postseason, following their previous encounters in the 2018 NLCS and 2020 NL Wild Card Series.

2018 NLCS: Dodgers Win Series 4-3

The first time these two teams met in October was during the 2018 season, when the Dodgers were on a quest to return to the World Series after losing to the Houston Astros in the Fall Classic the previous year.

After defeating the young Atlanta Braves in the NLDS in four games, the 92-win Dodgers would head to Miller Park to kick off the 2018 NLCS.

The Dodgers fell behind in the series in yet another Clayton Kershaw start, where a young Brandon Woodruff would clip Kershaw for a home run in the game.

The Dodgers would rebound late in Game Two thanks to a clutch two-run home run off the bat of third baseman Justin Turner in the eighth inning to even the series.

Although the following game, the D’ offense would go cold as they’d be shut out, giving the Brewers a 2-1 series advantage.

The next night was arguably the most thrilling game of the seven-game series as 2017 National League Rookie of the Year Cody Bellinger would hit a walk-off single in the 13th inning.

The next day, Kershaw would rebound after his Game One start and pitch the Dodgers to a 3-2 series lead as the NLCS would shift back to Miller Park, where the Brewers would even it up in Game Six, forcing a winner-take-all Game Seven.

As we know, the Dodgers would come out victorious, winning the game thanks to a stellar pitching performance by a young Walker Buehler and home runs from Bellinger and Yasiel Puig.

It would be the Dodgers’ second straight season winning the National League Pennant before falling yet again in the World Series this time to the 108-win Boston Red Sox.

2020 NL Wild Card: Dodgers Win Series 2-0

The two teams would meet just two seasons later during the COVID-19-shortened 2020 season, which saw Major League Baseball expand the postseason by adding more teams and forcing all of them to play a three-game Wild Card Series.

The Dodgers, who finished with the best record in the National League that season, would host the last Wild Card seed, the Brewers, who are at this point the only team with a losing record (29-31) to make the postseason in Major League Baseball history.

The Dodgers would make quick work of the Brew Crew, sweeping the series in two games, thanks to pitching performances by Walker Buehler in Game One and Clayton Kershaw in Game Two.

It was the first of four series wins for Los Angeles that October. The team marched all the way to the World Series, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays in six games and securing their first title since the 1988 season.

2025 NLCS

For the third time since 2018, the Dodgers and Brewers will meet yet again in the postseason, in a rematch of the 2018 NLCS with a World Series date on the line.

A lot has changed between now and then, but both teams are poised to do some damage in this best-of-seven series.
