A new (but familiar) face joins the Bleed Los podcast
LOS ANGELES — Looks like the Bleed Los podcast is getting an injection of XX chromosomes. In a wide-ranging interview today, longtime LA TV news reporter Alysha Del Valle, announced that she will be joining Team Bleed Los as a cohost going forward.
In typical “sweeps week” fashion, the Bleed Los team kept the big news under wraps for most of the episode. And after a discussion of Danny Trejo’s fried chicken tacos, host Alonso Sarinana officially welcomed Del Valle, a die-hard Dodger fan, into the fold. “It’s like decision day,” Del Valle joked, donning a Bleed Los T-shirt. “I am going with Bleed Los! I am a fan of the carne asada!”
A Southern California native, Del Valle grew up in a family of Dodgers fans. She recounted some of her earliest memories of how her close-knit Mexican-American family would gather around the TV in the 1980s every time Fernando Valenzuela would pitch. “You know how back in the day if there was a big fight, Chavez, De La Hoya, Tyson, or whoever, that’s how it was when Fernando pitched. We had the family over, we made food, you did not miss those games.
Del Valle admits that when it came time for her to spend her own money on a jersey, the choice was easy: number 34. Still, she has her current favorites as well, Justin Turner is her favorite current Dodger, as she appreciates all the good that he and his wife Kourtney do in the community.
In fact, she is all about positivity for her beloved Dodgers. She harbors no ill will toward former catcher Mike Piazza, though many Dodger fans hold a grudge against the All-Star Dodger backstop because of the Piazza’s calling out of legendary broadcaster Vin Scully in his 1998 book, Long Shot. In fact, she doesn’t even like it when fans boo their Dodger players, mentioning by name Kenley Jansen, who heard the boo-birds a time or two at Chavez Ravine in the final few years of his contract.
Del Valle wasn’t having any of it. “We already have a target on our backs on the road! We get booed there! We don’t want our players to get booed at home. It’s just something that didn’t used to be done.”
Del Valle will bring a mix of broadcasting professionalism with unapologetic love for her home team. It’s a great mix and a wonderful addition to the Bleed Los team.
