LOS ANGELES, CA– After the Dodgers’ tough 6-3 loss to the Cubs, where a 3-1 lead evaporated due to defensive mistakes in the 8th inning, catcher Austin Barnes and third baseman Max Muncy both took responsibility for the errors that contributed to the defeat.

Barnes expressed his frustration after a misplayed ball shifted the momentum against the Dodgers. “Yeah, it’s horrible,” Barnes said. “This one’s on me. I’ve got to make that play, and then, you know, it changes the whole inning. Runner on first and runner on second—it’s a lot different.” The miscue led to a sequence that saw the Dodgers’ pitching unravel, as Barnes admitted, “The whole inning got screwed up.”

Max Muncy also reflected on the costly errors, acknowledging the impact they had on the game’s outcome. “It was a frustrating way to lose that game,” Muncy said. When asked about a specific play where the ball thrown in by Tommy Edman sailed past him, Muncy explained, “It was thrown right at him (shortstop Miguel Rojas), and I thought he was going to catch it.” He didn’t elaborate much but made it clear that the defensive miscommunication was a key factor in the inning’s collapse.

As the Dodgers gear up for a playoff push, Muncy emphasized the need to clean up mental mistakes. “We made a lot of mental mistakes, and we’ve got to eliminate that. I think that’s the biggest thing—we just have to clear our heads, come back tomorrow, and play a good game.”

Despite the mistakes, both players were determined to move forward and regain focus for the crucial weeks ahead.
