LOS ANGELES, CA — In a jubilant postgame interview following the Dodgers’ 7-2 victory over the San Diego Padres to clinch the NL West, Mookie Betts reflected on the thrill of winning another division title and the resilience of the team. After dropping the first game of the series, the Dodgers bounced back to take the next two and secure their spot atop the division. “We’re going to fight and do what it takes to win,” Betts said, highlighting the team’s grit.

For Betts personally, his performance in the clinching game was particularly gratifying. After struggling in the first two games, Betts put in extra work in the batting cage, which paid off with a key hit. “I hate not contributing, so I was in the cage for a long time today. I’m just happy it came through,” he shared.

Clinching the division at home felt especially sweet for Betts and the team. Despite facing numerous injuries throughout the season, the Dodgers kept their belief in one another, which Betts believes is the foundation for a deep postseason run. “We believe in each other, and that’s the most important thing,” he emphasized.

Looking ahead to the playoffs, Betts is eager to see Shohei Ohtani make his postseason debut. “He’s special, but he’s going to need all of us,” Betts said. He praised Ohtani’s impact throughout the season and noted that it’s been fun to play alongside such a talented player.

Betts also acknowledged the outstanding performance of pitcher Walker Buehler, who delivered in a crucial moment to help secure the division. “Walker was amazing tonight. He stepped up, gave us a chance to win, and then the bullpen shut it down,” Betts said.

Betts closed the interview with a message to Dodgers fans: “Stay with us. It’s going to be tough, but don’t turn on us. We’re going to fight, and we’ll do what it takes to win.” With a deep bond and unwavering belief in each other, the Dodgers are primed for another deep postseason run.
