Dodgers Interview: Edman Comes Through, Reacts to Devers Blockbuster
“Glad we played some good ball the last few days”

LOS ANGELES — The Dodgers wrapped up a pivotal series with a 5–4 victory over the rival Giants on Sunday afternoon at Chavez Ravine, and Tommy Edman played a key role—both on the field and in the clubhouse. Slotted into the ninth spot in a late lineup change, Edman launched a crucial home run and later spoke about how the sudden change didn’t shake his preparation or focus.
“There was a last-minute lineup change and you go down to the ninth hole,” he acknowledged postgame. “But I don’t really change regardless of where I’m hitting in the lineup.” While the change meant facing a tall right-hander instead of the expected low-slot lefty, Edman said the only difference was in scouting and pitch expectation: “From that standpoint, a little bit different, but not too different.”
The homer marked yet another clutch contribution for Edman, who has been consistently impactful since arriving in Los Angeles. Despite flying under the radar in a star-studded clubhouse, the utility man has delivered quality at-bats in key moments. “Glad we played some good ball the last few days,” Edman said of the series win. “It’s a really important stretch for us. We’ve got some good teams, and we’re all close in the division right now.”
But the game wasn’t the only headline of the day.
Just before first pitch, news broke that the Giants had pulled off a stunning trade with the Red Sox to acquire All-Star slugger Rafael Devers. The news rippled through the Dodgers’ dugout in real time. “We heard what the trade was kind of right before the game was about to start,” Edman recalled. “Pretty shocking. You don’t really expect something like that to happen at this point of the year.”
The addition of Devers adds serious firepower to a San Francisco lineup already chasing the Dodgers in the standings. Edman didn’t sugarcoat the implications: “They’re a good team to add a good hitter like that—it makes them a little bit more dangerous than they already are.” Still, the focus remains inward. “We’re fortunate we didn’t have to face him this series, but I’m sure it’ll change some preparation down the road. For now, we’re on to the next series.”
With the Padres coming into town for a four-game set, the division race is tightening—and every game matters. Sunday’s win, and Edman’s clutch homer, helped the Dodgers hold serve against a surging San Francisco squad that just got a whole lot scarier.
The road ahead won’t be easy, but with Edman’s steady bat and calm mindset, the Dodgers look poised to meet the moment.
