LOS ANGELES, CA — In a post-game interview following the Dodgers’ recent victory, Enrique Hernández discussed his pivotal contributions on both sides of the field. During the game, Hernández made a spectacular catch and hit a crucial home run in the same inning, showcasing his versatility and impact.

Reflecting on his performance, Hernández highlighted his approach against pitcher Jacob Lopez, who replaced the original starter Shane Boz due to illness. “He threw the ball really well, and he’s got a funky throw,” Hernández said. He noted the challenge of adjusting to Lopez’s pitching style, but after seeing all his pitches in the first at-bat, Hernández felt more confident in his approach. “Second at-bat, I was trying to come out aggressive,” he explained. This strategy paid off when he connected for a home run.

The day was especially meaningful for Hernández, as it coincided with the birthday of Kobe Bryant, the inspiration behind his number eight jersey. “To do it in front of the Bryant family here today was pretty special,” he said, acknowledging the emotional weight of the moment.

Hernández also reflected on his defensive play, particularly a challenging catch in the outfield. Having primarily played third base recently, he admitted it had been a while since he was in the outfield. “It’s been a while, and I got one right out of the box,” he remarked about his swift adjustment. He described his process of managing the sun and the wall to make the play, emphasizing his focus and experience.

Praising his teammate Gavin Stone, Hernández noted the young pitcher’s consistency, despite a few rough outings. “I don’t think we would be in the spot that we are right now if it wasn’t for Gavin Stone,” he added, recognizing Stone’s significant role in the team’s success.
