LOS ANGELES, CA — Dodgers pitcher River Ryan exited Saturday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates with an arm injury that has raised some concerns. The issue surfaced in the third inning when Ryan felt a “little bit of tightness” in his forearm. Despite receiving treatment between innings, Ryan noticed the discomfort increasing as he continued pitching.
“By the fifth inning, the last two pitches really started to tighten up on me,” Ryan explained. “I begged Doc to let me keep going, but he pulled the plug.”
Ryan, who is relatively new to the Dodgers, has not experienced an injury like this before and expressed his disappointment in having to leave the game early. However, he remains optimistic about his condition.
“I’m not very concerned going forward,” he said. “I feel pretty solid right now. They ran me through some tests, and everything was strong. I’ll go to the doctor tomorrow morning and see what happens.”
While Ryan wanted to finish the game, the training staff decided not to take any risks after noticing him grimace on the mound. Ryan acknowledged that the pitch clock could contribute to the issue, but he’s determined to stay positive and see how things develop after his medical evaluation. In his brief stint in the big leagues, Ryan has impressed in each of his four starts. Over twenty innings of work, he has posted a 1.33 ERA with 18 strikeouts. Hopefully, Ryan’s positive assessment of the gravity of his injury will prove true, and he’ll be back to contribute before the end of the season.
