LOS ANGELES– Dodger Stadium was rocking on Wednesday night—and for good reason. Shohei Ohtani sent fans home happy with a dramatic walk-off home run, sealing a thrilling 6–5 victory and extending the Dodgers’ win streak to eight games.
After the game, Ohtani spoke with reporters via interpreter Will Ireton, and as always, the superstar stayed humble—even after delivering one of the season’s most electric moments.
“I kept it simple,” Ohtani said about his approach at the plate. “Just tried to go for it if I got a hittable pitch.” He credited the energy in the dugout for keeping the team locked in and believing in the comeback. “The atmosphere felt like we could come back and win,” he said. “That energy helped.”
Ohtani made sure to shine a light on the bullpen’s effort, too. “Honestly, not just today, but in games like this, our bullpen really battles and gives the offense chances to come back,” he noted. “I think that kind of effort from the relievers leads to these late-game turnarounds.”
When asked if he surprised even himself with the walk-off, Ohtani smiled. “Yeah, I guess a little,” he said. “Once we tied the game, it really felt like the momentum was shifting our way.” He pointed out that his earlier hits helped keep the Dodgers in it, saying, “Getting that hit really helped keep us in the game and may have saved us.”
This night was extra special for Ohtani—it came on a night when the Dodgers honored him in a pregame ceremony with a bobblehead commemerating his 2024 MVP award. “It felt special. To have a game like this on a night they were honoring me—it means a lot,” he said. “Being able to deliver on a night like that… it’s something you remember.”
With the Dodgers rolling through eight straight wins, Ohtani said the positive energy is carrying over day to day. “The vibes are really good—not just today. We’ve had a lot of late comebacks lately, and I think that energy carries over to the next day and even into practice. Everyone’s feeding off it.”
And his final thoughts? Classic Ohtani: calm, composed, and team-focused. “Overall, really good,” he said with a nod.
Dodger fans already know how lucky we are to have him—but on nights like this, it feels like something even more.
