Dodgers Interview: Tommy Edman Taking it Slow, Eyeing Early September Return

SAN DIEGO, CA – Dodgers fans got an encouraging update from Tommy Edman as he continues his rehab, and this time around, he’s focused on being smart and patient.

“It’s felt good with all the steps that I’ve been doing so far,” Edman said. “I’m taking it slower than last time just to make sure I’m not irritating the tissue any further.”

One big difference this time: rest. Edman shared that he gave himself about a week of pure recovery before diving into strengthening work and baseball activities. “I think that helped out a lot,” he explained. “It gave the tissue time to heal and for the irritation to go down before I really started pushing it again.”

As for what caused issues before, Edman pointed to the demands of playing the outfield. “In the outfield you’re getting a few more steps, more top speed, and that quick first push off,” he said. “In the infield, it’s more side to side. That difference made it a little tougher on the ankle.”

Still, Edman has no doubts about getting back out there in center field. “Yeah, that’s the plan,” he said confidently. “I’ll definitely be checking that box off before I go out and play.”

When asked about a timeline, he wouldn’t circle a specific day, but he made it clear the goal hasn’t changed. “It’s tough to put an exact date on it… but the goal is early September sometime.”

For Dodgers fans, that’s the good news: Tommy Edman is on track, taking it step by step, and doing everything he can to be ready for the stretch run.
