Dodgers Interview: Treinen’s Back? Here’s what he had to say after Game 1

MILWAUKEE — Blake Treinen has made a career out of walking calmly into chaos. Monday night in Milwaukee was another reminder. With one out, the tying run on base, and the crowd roaring, he took the ball from Roki Sasaki and got the final out to seal a 2–1 Dodgers win in Game 1 of the NLCS.
Treinen said the moment began with a quiet ritual. “Prayer first,” he said. “Roki’s been so great for us, and to have an opportunity to pick him up—just thanking God for the opportunity and trusting the talent he’s given me on a stage like that. Then it’s just trying to execute.”
The Brewers didn’t make it easy. “That team’s very well prepared,” Treinen said. “I felt like I made some really good pitches against [William] Contreras. He had a great at-bat, and thankfully I got him to swing.” He called the win “a great one,” adding, “Snell threw amazing. Our offense did a great job grinding out at-bats and pushing across the runs we needed. Just a good team win.”
When pitching coach Mark Prior came out for a mound visit before that final strikeout, the conversation was simple. “Just kind of what we were looking to do,” Treinen said. “Maybe a couple back-and-forth thoughts about pitch selection. It worked out well.”
He didn’t have long to prepare. “Honestly, I don’t know exactly when I got the call,” he said. “Maybe after the third batter. They just told me to be ready for Contreras.” Asked if he had enough time to loosen up, Treinen smiled. “Yeah.”
Facing Milwaukee’s lineup, he said, takes a particular kind of focus. “They’re well prepared, well coached. They know what they’re good at and they don’t come outside of that lane,” Treinen said. “You just try to keep them off balance because they’re not a team that strikes out much. Blake did such a great job pitching so differently. His feel for the zone kept them guessing. Being a righty coming in late after they’d seen a lefty all day probably helped, but they’re one of the most complete teams from top to bottom.”
Treinen closed his comments by circling back to gratitude. “You thank God for the opportunity, you trust your work, and you help your teammate,” he said. “That’s what tonight was about.”
