LOS ANGELES, CA — Dodgers’ catcher Will Smith played a pivotal role in the team’s thrilling win on Friday night, delivering a game-winning hit in a roller coaster of a game. Reflecting on the intense match, Smith said, “It was a lot of back and forth, homers, clutch hits – it had all of it. It was a fun game to be a part of. I wish we would have probably closed the deal a little bit earlier, but we grinded through it and pulled out the win.”
The game was marked by dramatic swings, with the Dodgers scoring just one run in the first four innings before exploding for 6 runs in the latter part of the game. Smith acknowledged the challenge of playing under such conditions, particularly dealing with shadows. “There were shadows for a couple of my at-bats. It was pretty tough, but you know, we’re big leaguers, and we deal with that quite a bit,” he explained.
Commenting on his rookie starter Justin Wrobleski, Smith was impressed with the fight that he showed. “I thought he pitched really good,” he said. “There were a lot of foul balls that got his pitch count up, and he couldn’t really find a way to put away guys earlier, but he battled. He battled and gave us four and a third strong innings. I thought he looked really good.”
In the final inning, Smith seized the moment when the opposing team intentionally walked Shohei Ohtani, giving him the chance to shine. “I was just trying to get something in the air, and it fell for a hit, and we got the win,” Smith said, describing his game-winning hit. His performance, along with clutch pitching and timely hitting, underscored the Dodgers’ resilience and determination as they continue their push for success.
