LOS ANGELES, CA — Yoshinobu Yamamoto, the Dodgers’ starting pitcher for Game 1 against the Padres, spoke confidently about his preparation for the big game. He revealed that he was informed of his Game 1 start by manager Dave Roberts just before practice and is focusing on “being in the best condition” for the matchup.

Having experience in major games such as Japan’s Nippon Series and the World Baseball Classic (WBC), Yamamoto emphasized that he’ll use that experience positively but aims to treat this postseason like any other game. “I just want to focus on each inning,” Yamamoto stated, adding that the energy from the fans helps push him to deliver his best performance.

While Yamamoto has never played in the MLB postseason, he has a strong track record of performing under pressure in big moments back in Japan. Reflecting on those experiences, he noted that playing in high-stakes situations has given him confidence, though he aims to “approach the game with the same mindset as usual.”

Regarding his health and recent outings, Yamamoto shared that his recovery from earlier injuries has gone well, and he feels great heading into this game. “In the four starts I made in September, I felt things were coming together,” he said, noting that he’s feeling strong and confident.

When asked how many innings he expects to pitch, Yamamoto expressed uncertainty but emphasized that his focus is on taking it one inning at a time and doing his best with each opportunity. “I want to focus on each inning and give my all,” he said.

As Yamamoto steps onto the mound for his first MLB postseason start, he’ll draw on his past successes and use the energy from the fans to help him perform at his peak. With the Dodgers counting on him to set the tone for their postseason, Yamamoto is ready to give everything for his team.
