Dodgers News: Alex Vesia to be Placed on IL with Right Oblique Strain

Los Angeles, CA — Just as the Dodgers were able to get back relievers Tanner Scott and Kirby Yates, their most reliable arm this year has gone to the injured list in Alex Vesia. With the activation of Blake Snell from the paternity list, Vesia has been placed on the IL, backdated to 8/23, with a right oblique strain.

The news is obviously a huge blow to the Dodger bullpen, which was almost back at full strength. Now, they’ll have to navigate games without their most reliable reliever in Vesia, who, despite struggling lately, had been a constant presence in a bullpen that’s been ripped apart by injuries. His 2.75 ERA and sub-one WHIP this season places him among the better relievers in the National League.

It is unclear how long Vesia will be out, though if he is unable to return this season, it will be a massive blow to the Dodgers’ World Series hopes. He’s got just over a month to heal up and get back to the bullpen before October.
