Dodgers News: Andrew Heaney Returns to Dodgers, Starts in Triple-A but Remains Playoff Eligible

As the season winds down, the Dodgers are bringing back a familiar face. Left-hander Andrew Heaney is returning to the organization, first reported by MLB Network insider Jon Heyman. Heaney will begin with Triple-A Oklahoma City, but because the deal was finalized before the deadline, he remains eligible for the postseason roster.
Dodger fans will remember Heaney from 2022, when he put together one of the best seasons of his career in Los Angeles. In 72.2 innings, he went 4–4 with a 3.10 ERA and a WHIP just over 1. That performance set him up for a two-year, $25 million deal with the Texas Rangers, where he helped them win the 2023 World Series.
This year has been a different story. Pitching for the Pittsburgh Pirates, Heaney has struggled, going 5–10 with a 5.39 ERA. Still, the Dodgers clearly see value in bringing him back, hoping they can tap into what made him so effective just a couple of years ago.
It remains to be seen if Heaney will work his way onto the Dodgers’ big-league staff before October. But one thing’s for sure: fans will be watching closely to see if he can recapture some of that 2022 magic in Dodger Blue.
