TOKYO, JPN. – Andy Pages is emerging as the front-runner for the Dodgers’ starting center field job on Opening Day and the Tokyo Series.
When asked about the position’s uncertainty, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said, “We haven’t made a final decision. Obviously, there is that last spot we’re essentially talking about.”
Regarding Pages, Roberts added, “Andy’s had a very good camp, and that was a really good play out there in center field. Obviously, with Imanaga going on Opening Day, it makes sense that there’s a chance he’ll be in the lineup.”
While an official decision has yet to be made, the competition for center field remains unclear. Pages, Tommy Edman, James Outman, and Hyeseong Kim all competed for the role throughout Spring Training, making the decision interesting as Opening Day approaches.
Offensively, Pages hit .215 this spring with a .313 on-base percentage and a .634 OPS. While his numbers at the plate have been modest, his defensive improvements have stood out, as he has made several key plays in the outfield. If he secures the starting job for the Tokyo Series, Outman’s role will come into question—whether he transitions to a platoon or shifts to a corner outfield spot.
