Dodgers News: A’s Nab Andy Ibáñez After Dodgers’ DFA Decision

A’s move quickly to claim Ibáñez following the Dodgers’ DFA decision.

LOS ANGELES, CA—As the 2026 Major League Baseball offseason comes to a close with the start of spring training set to kick off next week, the Los Angeles Dodgers’ transaction page has been busy.

After losing defensive specialist outfielder Mike Siani on waivers to the New York Yankees, Los Angeles DFA’d him to make room on the 40-man roster for the official announcement of Kyle Tucker’s 4-year record-breaking contract.

The Dodgers were quick to reclaim Siani this past week after the outfielder was yet again DFA’d by the Yankees, who DFA’d him to make room on their 40-man roster for the Cody Bellinger re-signing.

Following the Dodgers’ acquisition of Siani, the team opted to DFA utility infielder Andy Ibáñez, who was signed earlier this winter to a 1-year, $1.2 million contract.

If the Dodgers hoped to sneak Ibáñez through waivers, that plan quickly failed as the Athletics were quick to claim the infielder, according to Francys Romero.

Ibañez, 32, was out of minor league options, which gave him little roster flexibility for the Dodgers. Had Ibañez cleared waivers, the Dodgers could have given him the option to accept a minor league assignment with an invitation to spring training and a possible addition to the 40-man roster once the 60-day injured list opened up.

Over five Major League seasons, Ibañez has a batting line of .254/.304/389. While he has struggled in right-on-right matchups, he has excelled against left-handed pitchers, batting .280/.372/452.

Now the Dodgers will look for additional infield depth elsewhere, with a possible reunion with Kiké Hernández seeming more likely by the day.
