LOS ANGELES, CA — MLB has released the design of the All-Star jerseys prior to the upcoming festivities. After the horrible misstep of last year’s garbage jerseys (ugly in almost every way imaginable), I gotta say the league finally got something right.
Or more precisely, Nike got something right. The sports apparel company has been the exclusive on-uniform sponsor of MLB for a couple of years now, and they have been working up in Portland to come up with a design that would befit the first All-Star Game played in Dodger Stadium in over 40 years.
Saying that the design was “inspired by the fame and fortune of the city of angels,” Nike touted their “club-specific chest graphic (that) is drawn from the gold sheen of Hollywood award shows.”
Whatever the inspiration, it will be nice to see the team’s own logos on their jerseys rather than some made up logo that has no emotional connection to anyone or anything. And the little star on the players’ caps is a nice touch. The visiting gray is not exactly the shade I would choose, but other than that, big thumbs up. Let’s hope the game lives up to the high standard set by the threads.
