Dodgers News: Betts and Rojas Fall Short of Gold Glove Award
Mookie Betts (shortstop) and Miguel Rojas (utility) fell just short of winning the Gold Glove Award

LOS ANGELES, CA—While the Los Angeles Dodgers returned home after winning Game Seven of the 2025 World Series over the Toronto Blue Jays, Major League Baseball and Rawlings announced the winners of this year’s Gold Glove Award.
This season, the Dodgers have two nominations. Mookie Betts, who was seeking his first Gold Glove Award since the 2022 season, was nominated for shortstop in his first full season at the new position.
Veteran utility infielder Miguel Rojas, one of the well-known defensive gurus of the game, was nominated for the utility Gold Glove Award, which was created during the 2022 season.
Betts Falls Short of 7th Gold Glove Award
Betts, 33, was seeking his seventh Gold Glove Award and his first at shortstop, having won the previous six all in right field, but he fell behind in this year’s voting to Masyn Winn of the St. Louis Cardinals.
Cesar Izturis is the only shortstop in Los Angeles Dodgers history to have won a Gold Glove. Betts aimed to join this exclusive group following an impressive debut season at the position.
He led all National League shortstops with 21 outs above average, ranking second overall among MLB shortstops behind Kansas City Royals All-Star Bobby Witt Jr., who had 24.
Considering his favorable grades in multiple defensive metrics, it was not surprising that Betts was being considered for the hardware.
“It’s cool,” Betts had said of being a finalist for the NL Gold Glove Award at shortstop. “Like I said, I don’t really care about it. I’m just doing my job. That’s how I kind of view it. But I mean, it’s cool.
“If I win a Gold Glove at short, that will be something I can definitely tell my son I was able to do one in the infield and one in the outfield. But at the end of the day, the World Series is what’s the most important.”
Despite not winning the Gold Glove Award at shortstop, Betts did win this year’s Fielding Bible Award, his seventh time doing so, and first as a shortstop.
Rojas’s First Gold Glove Continues to Allude Him
Despite Rojas being known as one of the best defensive players in his Major League career, the 36-year-old had never won a Gold Glove Award, but had yet another chance this year, being nominated for the utility section.
Despite a solid argument, Rojas was bested by Javier Sanoja of the Miami Marlins, winning his first Gold Glove Award of his career.
Sanoja is the Marlins’ first Gold Glove winner since Marcel Ozuna in 2017. He played every position this season except for catcher and right field.
The Dodgers have never had a player win the utility Gold Glove Award, which has only been awarded since 2022, so it is still relatively new.
This season, Rojas occupied four different positions: second base, third base, shortstop, and first base. The 36-year-old also pitched four times, giving up seven runs over five innings.
However, behind the scenes, Rojas was also the shortstop coach for Mookie Betts, and the 2018 AL MVP credits Rojas for his smooth transition this season.
