Dodgers News: Betts likely out for weekend series against Nationals

The Dodgers continue their east coast road trip, heading north to our nation’s capital in Washington, DC, to face the Nationals. However, Mookie Betts is looking to be out of the line-up for the weekend after a foul ball of his foot forced him to leave the game late last night.

While Mookie Betts and the Dodgers got x-rays done on the August player of the month, which came back negative according to Dave Roberts, Mookie is still feeling some soreness and pain, which will likely see him sit out until the Dodgers return home on Monday.

The Dodgers are coming out of a tough series in Miami, which saw them drop two of three and lose three of four at home against the MLB-leading Braves. While they lose Betts for this series, they gain a bat in the process as J.D. Martinez was activated off the IL before tonight’s game. The Nationals, who are 27-23 since the All-Star Break, will not be a walk in the park like many fans would think as the young core of CJ Abrams, MacKenzie Gore, and former Dodger prospect Keibert Ruiz.

The Betts news is something to watch, especially as we get closer to October with the postseason on the horizon. Resting the former MVP as the Dodgers’ magic number entering today is at nine games is not a bad idea.
