As we dive into the 2024 MLB season, which is now officially one month old, the MLB monthly awards are kicking off, and the Dodgers have one man leading the charge.
Major League Baseball announced that Mookie Betts had won National League Player of the Month for March/April, and no one around the league was shocked due to the electric start to the 2024 season for Betts.
Mookie Betts is off to one of the best starts any position player can ask for, and he is leading in many offensive categories, all while transitioning to the demanding position of shortstop at 31 years of age.
Since the start of the season, many Dodgers insiders have described Betts as determined and on a mission, especially David Vassegh, who has described the 2024 season as “the year of Mookie Betts.”
Betts has put together an elite slash line batting .368/.477/.624 with a 1.101 OPS, 46 hits, 10 doubles, 2 triples, 6 home runs, 23 RBI, and 8 stolen bases, which is already more than half of what he had in 2023 (14).
Mookie Betts also leads baseball in fWAR (2.8), wRC+ (213), wOBA (.477), OPS (1.101), OBP (.477), AVG (.368), BB/K (1.63), H (46), R (29) and has played above average shortstop ranking 64th in OAA (Outs Above Average) in a position he hasn’t played regularly since high school.
The Dodgers hope that Betts can continue his dominance into the dog days of summer, which would put the seven-time all-star in route to his second career MVP after he finished runner-up in 2023.
