Dodgers News: Blake Treinen Shines in First Rehab Game

SUGAR LAND, TX— While the Los Angeles Dodgers dropped their second straight series and their sixth straight game, down in Sugar Land, Texas, veteran right-hander Blake Treinen appeared in his first minor league game for his rehab assignment.

Treinen, 37, has been on the injured list since the end of April due to a mild right forearm strain. An MRI confirmed the strain, but no season-ending procedures were expected.

Over the last several weeks, Treinen has ramped up his throwing program from flat ground throws to bullpens and, most recently, facing live hitters.

After a second live session at Dodger Stadium last weekend, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Treinen would begin a rehab assignment the following week.

Well, that day had finally come with Treinen kicking off yesterday’s game with the Triple-A OKC Comets in Sugar Land, Texas.

Overall, it was a great first outing for Treinen, who tossed a scoreless frame on twelve pitches and collected two punch-outs on the day. Even better was the velocity, which sat around 96 mph.

Treinen is expected to appear in multiple rehab assignments throughout July, but if all goes well, Roberts suggested that he could rejoin the team shortly after the All-Star break.

Treinen, inked a 2-year, $22 million deal to stay in Los Angeles last winter and has a 3.38 ERA in eight innings this season.
