LOS ANGELES — Say what you want about us Dodger fans, we show up late, we leave early, blah, blah, blah. We’ve all heard it a million times. But, when it comes to putting our money where our mouths are, we Dodger fans are second to none. Literally. MLB released its list of biggest selling jersey numbers, and FOUR of the top ten jerseys bought over the last year are from your Los Angeles Dodgers.
This year it was right fielder Mookie Betts who led all MLB players in jersey sales. This makes sense since Betts is a superstar and still settling in with his new ball club. There were certainly a lot of LA fans that updated their apparel with a Mookie jersey over the past year. Personally, I snagged a couple of of my own on Mookie jersey night at the stadium a few months ago, but now I have to walk around with a Budweiser billboard on my shoulder every time I wear the thing.
The other three Dodgers on the list are perennial favorite Clayton Kershaw at Number 5, followed immediately by Cody Bellinger at 6. NLCS and World Series hero Corey Seager was the final Dodger on the list, coming in at Number 8. The full list has a lot of the usual suspects on it:
A lot of it, of course, is from bandwagon fans who saw this team win the World Series, but I say welcome aboard. As our faithful readers recall earlier in the season, the Dodgers were voted the “most hated” MLB team. So, if we are always the most loved, that makes sense. That’s what happens when you’re the big dog.
