After being DFA’d by the Dodgers last week as the corresponding move for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Bryan Hudson has been traded to the Brewers for left-handed pitcher Justin Chambers and a PTBNL (player to be named later).
The Dodgers 40-man roster has been a revolving door this offseason, as every major signing the team makes cannot be made official until room is made. It was rumored that the delay to Yoshinobu Yamamoto’s introductory press conference was due to the Dodgers trying to find a trade partner to clear a spot on the 40-man. However, it also could have been due to the holidays. Regardless, the Dodgers were still able to get value for Hudson, who had an elite season in AAA last year. Hudson, a left-handed reliever, posted a 2.43 ERA with 86 SO in 55.2 minor league innings.
A week after being DFA’d, the Dodgers and Brewers were able to hook up for a trade. The Brewers would send over 2023 20th-round pick Justin Chambers. Justin is an 18-year-old pitcher from Arizona, where he ranked number one in the state for left-handed pitchers, according to Perfect Game. However, Chambers recently underwent Tommy John Surgery in 2023, but prior to that surgery, his velocity was topping out at 94mph. The Brewers will also be sending a PTBNL or cash.
At the end of the day, the Dodgers get some value back for a left-handed pitcher that they valued enough to delay the official announcing of the Yamamoto deal. They get a young pitching prospect they will control for years to come.
