The 2024 season has begun for the league, and the Dodgers hope to finally include former all-star and Cy Young nominee back in their rotation.
Walker Buehler has been sidelined since the 2022 season as he recovers from his second career Tommy John Surgery. However, the right-handed anchor in the rotation is finally set to begin his rehab assignment.
The Dodgers, in a strategic move, announced early in the spring that they would delay Buehler’s season. This decision was made to gradually reintegrate him into the rotation while also managing his innings, a testament to the team’s commitment to his long-term health and performance.
Buehler did not appear in any Cactus League games for the Dodgers; however, he teased a potential appearance in the final three-game series of Spring Training against the Angels, but that never came to fruition.
Prior to yesterday’s game against the Cardinals, Dave Roberts confirmed that Buehler would make his first rehab start with OKC on Sunday and is expected to go 4-5 innings.
Roberts also stated that it is reasonable to assume that Buehler will need around four rehab starts before getting the call to the Majors.
The inevitable return of Buehler is huge for a Dodgers rotation that has surely missed their postseason ace and his career 2.94 ERA in October.
Personally, I still believe that Buehler will make his debut in May, which would put him on pace for around twenty starts, similar to Bobby Miller last season, who made his debut at the same time.
