Dodgers News: “Bullpen Dawg” and 2024 World Series Champion Signs Minor League Deal with Giants
Veteran reliever Brent Honeywell joins San Francisco seeking a pathway back to the big leagues.

GLENDALE, AZ—While the Los Angeles Dodgers’ most recent World Series run was defined by their elite starting pitching headlined by right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Tyler Glasnow, and left-hander Blake Snell in 2024, it was the complete opposite with the bullpen paving the way for the team’s success that October.
The “Bullpen Dawg” is the term that they would label themselves, and one of the main men in that bullpen during October, helping the Dodgers conserve innings and possibly solving Mookie Betts’ swing in live batting practice was right-hander Brent Honeywell.
Despite becoming a World Series champion and being willing to pitch in any role, Honeywell does not have any minor league options, which hindered his roster flexibility and forced the Dodgers to have a hand that offseason, when the team opted non-tender him in November.
While Honeywell attempted to pitch in 2025, he would never fetch a deal until now, where the Dodgers’ National League West rival, the San Francisco Giants, have taken a flier on the right-hander to a minor league deal.
Honeywell finished the 2024 regular season with a 1-1 record, a 2.62 ERA, 4.27 FIP, and a 1.10 WHIP in 18 appearances, including one start for the Dodgers. Although he was not included on the Dodgers’ postseason roster for the National League Division Series against the San Diego Padres, he joined the team for the National League Championship Series and World Series.
Now, Honeywell, a Dodgers postseason hero, will don the Giants’ signature orange in hopes of prolonging his MLB career.
