Whelp it is officially trade deadline season as the Los Angeles Dodgers have reportedly acquired superutilityman Cavan Biggio from the Toronto Blue Jays.

The Dodgers will send right-handed reliever Braydon Fisher, who split time between AA and AAA this season and has a 5.68 ERA, 30 strikeouts, and 15 walks in 19 innings.

Biggio, 29, a former top prospect in the Blue Jays farm system, was recently DFA’d by the Blue Jays last week after hitting .200/.323/.291 this year and .227/.343/.382 for his career.

The Blue Jays, who are currently in third place in the competitive American League East one game under .500 with a record of 33-34 and are two games back from the final American League Wild Card spot, are a team with plenty of talent to watch this trade deadline.

However, it has been an underwhelming season for the Blue Jays, who, despite making the postseason in back-to-back seasons, are largely off to a horrible start due to their lackluster offense that Biggio was a part of.

Despite not having the best offensive numbers, where Biggio is truly valuable is the ability to plug and play virtually anywhere, as the utility man has started games all across the diamond.

This move comes as no surprise as many MLB insiders have linked the Dodgers to multiple infielders. Max Muncy is currently on the injured list with an oblique injury with no timetable for a return, and veteran Miguel Rojas is battling a leg injury.

With the Dodgers also already having Kiké Hernández and Chris Taylor on the roster as their go-to utility men, it will be interesting to see what the Dodgers do to make room on the roster for Biggio.

He hit 16 home runs in 100 games his rookie season and followed in the COVID-shortened 2020 year with a .375 on-base percentage, looking like a foundational piece at second base.

Injuries limited Biggio in the years after, and he lost playing time this season to Davis Schneider and Isiah Kiner-Falefa. With the Blue Jays struggling offensively, they DFA’d him to make room for Spencer Horwitz, who has started all four games at second since his recall. Biggio has one season of club control beyond this year and will be eligible for free agency after 2025.
