UPDATE: Jon Heyman reports deal is believed to be one year for seven million
The Winter has not gone exactly as the Dodgers had hoped so far. They lost Co-Ace Zack Greinke to division rivals the Arizona Diamondbacks. Then they turned to right handed free agent pitcher Jeff Samardzjia, but he decided to sign with the San Francisco Giants.
The search for relief pitching hasn’t faired well as well. Dodgers had interest in Darren O’Day and Ryan Madson but reports say that have signed with the Baltimore Orioles and Oakland Athletics. It is quite possible that price and years was an issue the Dodgers front office was not comfortable with.
Today though Ken Rosenthal tweeted that the Dodgers were close to re-signing free agent Chase Utley. The Dodgers had been linked to him since the season ended and they turned down his 11 Million club option.

Dodgers like that Utley can play second and third base and a left handed bat. Utley who turns 37 later this month faces a two-game suspension for his hard slide on Ruben Tejada in Game 2 of the National League Division Series against the New York Mets.
