Dodgers News: Chris Woodward Named First Base Coach

via MLB.com/Dodgers

The Los Angeles Dodgers officially announced that Chris Woodward would be the new first base coach for the upcoming 2025 season, joining current Dodgers manager Dave Robert’s staff for the second time.

This is Woodward’s second stint on the Dodgers coaching staff. He served as the Dodgers’ third base coach from 2016 to 2018 before leaving for the Texas Rangers manager job in November 2018.

Woodward’s stint in Texas was not long, as Woodward had a 211-287 record in nearly four seasons with the Rangers. After the Rangers dismissed Woodward during the 2022 season, they hired veteran manager Bruce Bochy to take his place.

Woodward has been a senior advisor on the Dodgers’ major league and player development staff for the past two seasons, who welcomed him back with open arms after his unsuccessful stint in Texas.

Dodgers executive vice president and general manager Brandon Gomes said Woodward will take over baserunning and infield responsibilities with third-base coach Dino Ebel shifting to outfield duties.

The move comes as a necessity as former Dodgers first base coach Clayton McCullough took the Miami Marlins manager gig last week, leaving a void in the coaching staff.
