Dodgers News: CJ Alexander Claimed from the Yankees, Steward Berroa DFA’d

LOS ANGELES, CA—The Los Angeles Dodgers have claimed infielder CJ Alexander from the New York Yankees. To make room on the Dodgers’ 40-man roster, the team DFA’d outfielder Steward Berroa.
For Alexander, this is the third organization he has been a part of this season. The 28-year-old first baseman began the year with the Athletics before being DFA’d by them four weeks ago.
The New York Yankees claimed Alexander off waivers and optioned him to the Yankees’ Triple-A affiliate. However, while listed as a first baseman, most of Alexander’s professional experience has come as a third baseman.
Alexander’s brief time in the majors has resulted in only four hits in 25 plate appearances (for a .320 OPS), but he has hit well at Triple-A, with a .239/.338/.439 slash line and .777 OPS.
While Alexander is not likely to appear at the Major League level for Los Angeles, he’ll provide depth on the position player side in Triple-A. With Max Muncy‘s injury, a full-time player such as Alex Freeland could receive a promotion to fill that void.
Steward Berroa was acquired by the Dodgers in a trade with the Toronto Blue Jays back in May.
The outfielder hit .270/.358/.345 with a .703 OPS with the Triple-A OKC Comets this season, but never appeared with the big league club.
