Dodgers News: Clayton Kershaw Activated; Blake Snell Transferred to 60-Day IL, Ryan Loutos Optioned

LOS ANGELES— The Los Angeles Dodgers have activated veteran left-handed pitcher Clayton Kershaw off the 60-day injured list for today’s start against the Los Angeles Angels.
To make room on the roster, the Dodgers transferred left-handed pitcher Blake Snell to the 60-day injured list and optioned right-handed pitcher Ryan Loutos to Triple-A OKC.
Kershaw, 37, will be starting his eighteenth season with the Dodgers today, tying him with Bill Russell and Zack Wheat for the most in franchise history.
Kershaw appeared in five minor league rehab starts, posting a 2.57 ERA in thirty-one innings pitched and collecting sixteen punchouts despite battling inconsistent velocity.
Kershaw appeared in a handful of games last season after missing the entire first half of the regular season, recovering from offseason shoulder surgery.
After making his regular season debut in July last season at Dodger Stadium against their National League West rival, the San Francisco Giants, the lefty would only make six more starts, pitching to a 4.50 ERA in thirty innings.
Kershaw’s return will also count down the massive milestone of the future Hall of Famer reaching the illustrious three thousand strikeout club, a mark only hit by three other left-handed pitchers: Steve Carlton, Randy Johnson, and CC Sabathia.
Snell, 32, was placed on the 15-day injured list on March 31st with left shoulder discomfort and just now began his throwing program. The earliest activation date is May 30th, but the lefty is not expected to return anytime soon.
Loutos, 26, made his Dodger debut yesterday, allowing two runs in one inning pitched as the Dodgers fell to the Angels 6-2 in Game One of a three-game series.
